On Saturday 16 March at 11:00am @ the Matthews Masonic Lodge, Post 235 will officially rename itself as the Hooks-Orr American Legion Post 235, Matthews NC in honor of the two local soldiers killed in action in France in 1918…Pvt Grady Bost Hooks and Pvt Joseph Lee Orr…both from prominent families in Matthews.  The ceremony will be short, and followed by a cake and coffee reception at the Lodge. That weekend is also the 100th Birthday of the American Legion, and the 75th Birthday of Post 235 in Matthews.
