Please join Mayor Paul Bailey, the Matthews Board of Commissioners and members of Matthews American Legion Post 235 for a special ceremony to recognize and celebrate those who served. The ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Stumptown Park. At 12:00 p.m., we will gather at Old Matthews Cemetery to remember our WWI soldiers on the 100 anniversary of the end of WWI. We will also honor Private Grady B. Hooks of Matthews, killed on the last day of WWI November 11, 1918. Private Hooks is buried at Old Matthews Cemetery.
